Psychologiczne konsekwencje stereotypizowania

Research on stereotypes have a long lasting tradition in the social psychology. Stereotype contents and its influence on how people are perceived and evaluated were throughly analysed. Research carried out up to date neglected analysis of stereotype target’s functioning in stereotype activation situation and its impact on the interpersonal interaction. Empirical reports about meta-stereotypes - beliefs of majority group members about how they are perceived by people belonging to minority group. Consequences of stereotype threat caused by negative stereotype activation in ability testing situation are considered. Task performance impairments in stereotype threat situation consist of dif¬ficulties in using generative strategies in cognitive functioning. It seems that such deficits are caused by cognitive exhaustion.
