Investigation on Discrepancy of Dynamic Responses between Two Constitutive Models of Aluminum Alloy BRBs in Structures

2016
In the study, the employment of central aluminum alloy buckling restrained braces were attempted for damage control of a single-deck steel frame. Smart metal of A5083-H111 aluminum alloy was chosen to use as the core material of aluminum alloy buckling restrained braces. The discrepancy of structural dynamic responses between two constitutive models of aluminum alloy buckling restrained braces was studied. Two different cross section areas of aluminum alloy buckling restrained braces were adopted for comparative study. Displacement, reaction, stress, strain of critical area and plastic energy dissipation were investigated under one strong ground motion. Suggestions for further academic research and engineering application were given.
