The book presents the results of many-year hydrobiological investigations of the Institute of biology of the southern seas, RAS in the frame of an agreement on scientific - technical cooperation with the Kazantip nature reserve. The history of formation of a unique nature monument - Kazantip cape, representing bryozoans reef, which was formed millions years ago is considered here in brief. Mostly original information about species diversity, quantitative indices, temporal and spatial changeability, peculiarities of biology, ecology of different groups of hydrobionts: phytoptankton, zooplankton, benthic animals and fish is given. The condition of the rare and vanishing species as well as an influence of the alien species on the native biocenoses are being considered. Development and consequences of the fish-kill in the nature reserve coastal zone are described. The book is aimed to a wide circle of readers - scientists, workers of the nature protection sphere, teachers, students, pupils and to all those who are interested in the Kazantip cape nature.
