Integration of family planning and health services: the Narangwal experience.

This publication consists of 10 chapters by different participants in the Narangwal Project assessing the achievements impact and implications of the project for various aspects of family planning and fertility. A brief preface describes the purposes of the project in demonstrating the need for integrating services at the periphery of a primary health care system and the careful measurement of service inputs and outputs used in the calculation of total impact and relative cost effectiveness of alternative interventions. The separate chapters cover study background and design; achievements in family planning use; health service achievements; relationship between specific health services and family planning use; multiple determinants of family planning use; analysis of efficiency and equity; determinants of fertility differentials before and during program; impact of services on fertility; policy implications of research findings; and field implications of the Narangwal experience. 2 appendices describe data collection methodology and services provided in the Narangwal Population Study.
