Some Experiments and Comment on Studies of Nitrogen in Steel Plasma Refining

The nitrogen content of steels can be increased to levels above the equilibrium value when in contact with a plasma arc. It can also be reduced to low levels using an argon plasma and BaO and TiO{2} slag. The results of nitrogen absorption and desorption experiments using a plasma arc induction furnace equipped with a porous plug are discussed.
