Pulsed Nd:YAG laser percussion microdrilling of SiC-30BN nanocomposite with compressed air as assisted medium

2020
Abstract This paper presents an experimental approach to explore the relation between process parameters and machining outcomes during pulsed Nd: YAG laser microdrilling of Silicon Carbide 30% Boron Nitride (SiC-30BN) nanocomposite material. The parameter settings are selected as L27 orthogonal array technique based on Taguchi methodology. Multiobjective optimization is also performed to determine optimum level of process parameters to find desired quality characteristics. It is found that the quality of hole taper improved considerably whereas hole circularity improved marginally at the optimal condition determined through proposed optimization method. This indicates about the viability of proposed optimization technique to obtain preferred product quality.
