Hemorheological and Perihemorheological Aspects of the Vessel-Blood Organ Affecting Ischemia

1987
In 1978, the author participated in a conference on “Brain and Heart Infarct” at Castle Auel, where he presented a paper entitled “Hemorheology and Ischemia” [11]. Indeed, it is gratifying that the symposium here deals entirely with hemorheology and ischemia, with emphasis on the brain. At that time Copley proposed a new theory of atherogenesis, which was further developed later [12,13]. He also dealt with phenomena, such as compaction stasis in inflammation, affecting both the rheology of the vessel wall and the flow properties of blood. This communication is concerned mainly with transcapillary transport and perihemorheology, which are expected to have considerable impact on future studies of ischemia, including cerebral ischemia.
