Conducted Noise Disparity Study in SPWM and HPWM Inverters Using ICAP Software and Laboratory Corroboration

2005
In this paper, simulated estimation and comparison of conducted electromagnetic interference (EMI) for the single-phase full-bridge sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) and hybrid pulse width modulation (HPWM) inverters are presented. Influences of input dc voltage, modulation depth and carrier frequency on conducted noise are studied through ICAP simulation software. HPWM method, which effectively reduces the switching losses, is tested for EMI first time. Simulation results map out the violation of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards in many cases and emphases on EMI mitigation techniques. The VDE (class A) standard is taken for study. Simulated results are validated with the help of laboratory testing of the prototype high frequency inverter at SAMEER Lab, Chennai, INDIA.
