Visual estimation of deviations for the civil aircraft landing

Abstract This paper presents a new scheme for the visual estimation of deviation of a system with respect to an object for which no feature is known (position, dimensions, …). This scheme is based on nonlinear observers and, thanks to an adequate combination of the visual information, requires reduced computation for its design. It is evaluated on a scenario describing the landing of an aircraft on an unknown runway and is validated with synthetic images.
