The iron trichloride-cesium chloride phase diagram, the crystal structure of cesium enneachlorodiferrate: Cs3Fe2Cl9

1978
Abstract The phase diagram of the iron trichloride-cesuim chloride binary system has been investigated by differential thermal analysis. The system exhibits three compounds: CsFeCl 4 (congrently melting at 382.0°C), Cs 3 FeCl 6 (incongruently melting, decomposition at 480.6°C) and Cs 3 Fe 2 Cl 9 (decomposition in the solid state at 270.5°C). Cs 3 Fe 2 Cl 9 crystallizes in the hexagonal space group P 6 3 / mmc , a = 7.235(2)A, c = 17.780(4)A, d (calcd) = 3.41 for Z = 2. A three dimensional structure determination was based upon 499 independent reflections.
