Reaction of methyl 3-{[2-(dimethylamino)propyl]amino}acrylate with α-chloro-3-bromobenzylisocyanate was used to synthesize 4-(3-bromophenyl)-5-metoxycarbonyl-1-(N,N-dimethylaminopropyl)-3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2-(1 H )-one hydrochloride. The alkylation of this product with monochloroacetic acid esters yielded a series of quaternary ammonium salts. Some of the synthesized compounds exhibit high inhibitory activity with respect to superoxide generation ability of mitochondria both in the liver and in transformed tumor tissues in rats.
