Ti-TiH2 Matrix Composites Reinforced with TiN by High Vacuum Sintering (HVS) for Biomedical Applications

2020
Abstract TiN reinforced Ti-TiH2 matrix composites were produced by high vacuum sintering at 1100 °C with the purpose to enhance the mechanical properties and to evaluate their electrochemical behavior in simulated body fluid. The characterization of the composites was conducted through scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and microhardness tests. The electrochemical performance was evaluated by potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements. The increment of TiN content improved significantly the hardness and slightly lowered the corrosion resistance.
