THE EFFECTS OF TEACHING STRATEGIES AND ANALYTICAL ABILITY ON THE PNEUMATIC SKILLS AMONG THE MECHANICAL ENGINEERING STUDENTS OF YOGYAKARTA STATE UNIVERSITY

2008
This study is aimed at investigating the differences in pneumatic skills among students taught using the holistic teaching strategy and demonstration strategy based on their analytical ability in the Hydraulic Pneumatic class. This study is a quasi-experiment using a factorial 2x2 experimental design with two independent variable qualification levels of holistic teaching and demonstration strategies with randomly selected 32 students respectively for the experimental and control groups. Findings suggest that 1) students’ pneumatic skills taught using the holistic teaching strategy is higher than those taught using the demonstration strategy, 2) students with higher analytical skills and taught using the holistic teaching strategy show higher pneumatic skill than those taught using the demonstration strategy, 3) students with lower analytical skill and taught using the demonstration strategy show higher pneumatic skill than those taught using the holistic teaching strategy, and 4) there is an interaction between teaching strategy and analytical skill with the students’ pneumatic skill.
