The invention relates to an internal combustion engine (1) having a fuel gas supply means (3), a mixture sensor device (5) and a control device (6), wherein the fuel gas supply means (3) is arranged to fuel gas and to mix combustion air to a combustion gas-combustion air mixture, wherein the mixture sensor device (5) is arranged to detect an actual mixing ratio of the fuel gas-combustion air mixture, wherein the control means (6) is arranged, by driving the fuel gas supply means (3) a gas-air mixture ratio of the fuel gas-combustion air mixture in direction of a reduced proportion of fuel gas to influence, when the actual mix ratio reaches a first predetermined limit value or exceeds mixture.
