Grafted iron(III) physiological-type porphyrin aggregates: syntheses, magnetic measurements and resonance-Raman study

1993
In a modelling effort to mimic the degradation products of haemoglobin, iron(III) proto- and deuteroporphyrin aggregates were synthesised using the corresponding iron porphyrin grafted on agarose gel. It is demonstrated, using resonance-Raman and EPR spectroscopy and magnetic measurements, that the major molecular species of the aggregates is an unexpected monomeric high-spin hydroxoiron(III) porphyrin, whereas the expected µ-oxo-bridged dimer is a minor species.
