Fiber-reinforced plastic and method for producing same

2012
Provided is a fiber-reinforced plastic obtained by impregnating a matrix resin into a fiber material containing discrete inorganic fibers having a number-average fiber length (Ln) of 10 mm or more in a state in which the fibers opened while aligned in substantially the same direction, with the shape of the fiber material being retained by friction and/or entanglement between the fibers, and Lw/Ln of the fiber material being in the range of 1.0 to 1.3, where Lw is the weight-average fiber length of the inorganic fibers, said fiber-reinforced plastic characterized in that the fiber-reinforced plastic has a tensile strength anisotropy of 20% or less. Also provided is a method for producing the fiber-reinforced plastic. The present invention makes it possible to obtain a fiber-reinforced plastic that has favorable moldability even with a complex shape, has high mechanical properties, and has low anisotropy of the mechanical properties.
