The effect of the benzodiazepine antagonist flumazenil on microfilariae of Monanema martini in vitro

Microfilariae of Monanema martini obtained by skin snips from Lemniscomys striatus were placed in 96 flat bottomed well microtitration plates filled with phosphate buffered saline pH 7.4 (PBS) and various drug concentrations of flumazenil alone and in combination with midazolam. We were unable to detect an antagonistic or intrinsic action of flumazenil alone but a synergistic effect with midazolam could be demonstrated
