Roles of medicinal plants in the treatment of connective tissue diseases

Abstract Recently, the focus on plant research for the treatment of several diseases is increased. Following the steps of the older generation, the well-tried herbs are again now tried against diseases that are not successfully treated through allopathic remedies. The medicinal plants known to be having an ameliorating effect in various connective tissue disease conditions are to be evaluated for the safety of its use. The various phytochemicals of these medicinal plants are responsible for the amelioration of several connective tissue diseases. This chapter aims at providing information on pharmacology, mechanism of action, prospects of medicinal plants for curing connective tissue diseases. It will help in the optimum use of these plants when developed as drugs after proper research and clinical trials.
