Partial molal volumes of n-alkyl carboxylates in micellar bile salt solutions
1990
Abstract Partial molal volumes of n -alkyl carboxylates (C 2 C 12 , C 14 , and C 18 ) in micellar solution of sodium deoxycholate and chenodeoxycholate at pH 9 and 11 were obtained. Changes in partial molal volumes of a single CH 2 group show that in the case of short chain homologs (up to C 9 ) CH 2 groups are accessible to water molecules, while in long chain homologs alkyl chains are incorporated into the hydrophobic interior of bile salt micelles.
