AIAA-98-2568 COUPLING ENERGY THROUGH CONDUCTIVE LAYERS
1998
A potential mechanism for coupling high frequency electromagnetic waves through a homogeneous isotropic conductive medium is presented. It is shown that electromagnetic waves can be converted into "magnetic waves" in a nonlinear medium, such as a plasma, at or near the surface of a conductive medium. It is also shown that only low-frequency waves can effectively propagate and that plasmas can be used to convert high frequency electromagnetic waves to low frequency waves.
