Zur Wirkung der stereoisomeren Menthole auf das Verhalten verschiedener Termitenarten (Isoptera)

On the effects of the stereoisomer menthols on the behaviour of different termite species (Isoptera). Comparative considerations on analogous relations between structure and toxicity in the hexachlorocyclohexane isomers The reactions of 16 termite species which were subjected to the influence of the four stereoisomers of menthol are described. Attractive or repellent effects are dependent on the cis-trans-configuration. Only the two stereoisomers neomenthol and neoisomenthol with axial hydroxyl-groups are definitely poisonous. This leads to an explanation of the toxic principle of γ-hexachlorocyclohexane. Zusammenfassung Es wird das sinnesphysiologische Verhalten von 16 Termitenarten, die der Einwirkung der vier stereoisomeren Menthole ausgesetzt waren, beschrieben. Dabei zeigte sich eine von der cis-trans-Isomerie abhangige Anlock- bzw. Abschreck-Wirkung. Nur die beiden stereoisomeren Neomenthol und Neoisomenthol mit axialer Hydroxyl-Gruppe sind ausgepragt giftig. Daran anknupfend konnte das giftige Prinzip des γ-Hexachlorcyclohexans erklart werden.
