Embelin is a large scandent shrub, distributed throughout India and commonly known as false black pepper or Vidanga. It is also a critically endangered species of conservation importance in India. Embelin (2,5-dihydroxy-3-undecyl-1,4-benzoquinone), a major phenolic compound found in the fruits of Embelia ribes Burm belonging to family Myrsinaceae is the most correlated species of Vidanga. Embelin is indicated in traditional medicine for the treatment of various diseases. It has used as antibacterial, antiprotozoal, abdominal disorders, lung diseases, constipation, indigestion, fungus infections, mouth ulcer, sore throat, pneumonia, heart disease and obesity, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Embelin reported to be a potent oral contraceptive. As embelin possess non-steroidal & non hormonal moiety will have a hope to nullify the health hazardous system & eliminates unwanted physiological symptoms & expectation of new molecule. This book generally concerns to provide quantitative estimation of isolated embelin was determined by using High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and UV method which was finally compared by using standard embelin.
