Transport Properties in Molten Silver Iodide.

1999
A new promise method to derive experimentally the diffusion constants of cation and anion in molten salts, which is based on the time-dependent decaying of the charge polarization in them, has been presented. The application was carried for molten AgI. The determined diffusion constants of cation and anion are reasonably agreed in comparison with the results by computer simulation. AC conductivity in molten salts is theoretically discussed in terms of a simplified Langevin equation and an application is also carried out for molten AgI. From these, the average value of the deviation from the Nernst-Einstein relation weighing by the diffusion constants of cation and anion is obtained as a function of temperature, indicating a large amount of collective motion of the same kinds of ions under the external field.
