Effect of Sn on the microstructure evolution of AZ80 magnesium alloy during hot compression

2017
Abstract Hot compression deformation tests of AZ80 and AZ80-2 wt.% Sn magnesium alloys were performed on Gleeble-1500 at deformation temperature of 350 °C and strain rate of 0.1 s −1 to analyze the effect of Sn on the microstructure evolution. The results indicated that the addition of Sn promoted dynamic recrystallization and decreased flow stress during hot compression. Dynamic dissolution of discontinuous precipitation Mg 17 Al 12 phases was promoted and dynamic precipitation of Mg 17 Al 12 phases was suppressed in AZ80-2 wt.% Sn alloy. The quantity of Mg 17 Al 12 phases of thermally compressed AZ80-2 wt.% Sn alloy was less than that of AZ80 alloy. Texture intensity increased in AZ80-2 wt.% Sn alloy during hot compression due to Mg 17 Al 12 phases effectively induced particle-stimulated nucleation in recrystallization.
