Higher Education Reform in Indonesia: University Governance and Autonomy

Comprised of over 17,000 islands that form an archipelago reaching from Southeast Asia to Australia, Indonesia has perhaps the most diverse and difficult higher education environment when it comes to issues of access, equity, and delivery of curriculum.1 Meeting the needs of such an enormous country spread across so many islands, with hundreds of distinct ethnic groups and indigenous languages, poses a formidable challenge for higher education policy makers and planners.
