Study on the Ecological and Biological Features of Endangered Plant Gentiana rigescens

The habitat,growth and reproductive features,floral phenology and resourse status of Gentiana rigescens Franch.ex Hemsl.grew under natural conditions were investigated in southwestern Yunnan province.Results showed that under natural conditions,the distribution of wild population of G.rigescens was disconnected;and the number of plants in population was small;the period lasting from seed germination to blossom and fruit bearing cost at least three years.The pollination after flowering was mainly self pollination.The ovary began to expand 5～8 d after pollination;and fruit maturation period lasted for about 60 d.The fruit bearing rate was very high(82.4%);but seed germination rate was low(0.3%) under natural conditions.The tillering propagation ability was also low,conceiving 1 or 2 stems per bundle each year.Sexual reproduction was the main reproductive means for population of G.rigescens in wild habitat;reproductive defects and predatory collection by human were the main reasons endangering wild resource of G.rigescens.
