Preparation of meter-long alkali halide single crystals

Abstract High purity single crystals of LiF, NaF, and KCl have been produced exceeding 1 meter in length and having a nearly uniform diameter of approximately 1 cm. The Czochralski seed-pulling technique was used in conjunction with apparatus constructed at Cornell University.
