Using Wireless Sensor to Solve the False Alarm of Earthquake Early Warning System

2013
This research is focus on solving the false alarm problem of the on-site EEWS and a newly concept called “sub-regional EEWS” is proposed. The sub-regional EEWS merges both the concepts of regional and on-site EEWS; the regional EEWS is accurate due to multiple data verification, and the on-site EEWS is fast by avoiding data communication. The sub-regional EEWS inherits the architecture of the on-site EEWS and extends considering the sub-site information from other positions; the concepts of wireless sensor, wireless sensor network and embedded parallel data pre- processing, are adopted in this system to avoid the delay time on data collecting and computing. The wireless sensing unit applied in the sub-regional EEWS is NTU-WSU whose basic architecture is from the prototype of Stanford University, WiMMS. This research will demonstrate a successful application of wireless sensor on earthquake early warning system, the working detail on system integration and the overall system performance of the sub-regional EEWS.
