IATROGENIC PERFORATION OF THE STOMACH IN THE PRETERM INFANT

Gastric perforation is rarely seen in neonatal period, and its mortality is quite high if not treated urgently and appropriately. Although a number of theories have been proposed the exact mechanism is unknown. We presented a case of gastrointestinal perforation that was referred to our hospital with abdominal distension and deterioration of general condition 3 days after it was internalized to a neonatal care unit primarily due to prematurity and respiratory distress after birth.
