Some properties of a xyloglucan isolated from the spent medium from susptension cultured loblolly pine (Pinus taeda) cells
1988
Acid hydrolysis of the xyloglucan yielded 44.3% glucose, 30.4% xylose, 8.1% galactose, 2.4% arabinose, and 4.8% fucose. Partial characterization of this polysaccharide showed it was a 1,4-glucan (probably β linked) branched at the 6 position with nonterminal xylose, as well as terminal galactose, arabinose, and fucose units. Fragmentation with a fungal cellulase yielded a number of glucan fragments, one of which was xylose-rich and others in which galactose was the predominant branch constituent. These fragments were mixtures of saccharides and did not display any biological activity
