HISTORIC CONTEXTS: SEEING BEYOND THE OBVIOUS

2003
This paper focuses directly on historic contexts as the basis for rational decisions about significance. The paper provides a set of examples illustrating several important points about contexts and significance. The author reminds us that there are multiple historic contexts within which a single property might be significant, that we need to examine multiple sources of historical information in order to identify all those contexts, and that temporal and spatial context are significant components of the historic context.
