Primary observation of detection acid-fast bacillus in hydrothorax and ascites by centrifuging the liquored sputa and collecting bacteria

2010
Objective To study the value and clinical application of detection acid-fast bacillus by centrifuging the liquored sputa and collecting bacteria in hydrothorax and ascites. Methods The study compared the positive rate of hydrothorax and ascites samples detected by centrifuging the liquored sputa and collecting bacteria by direct smear method simultaneously. The study evaluated this method in comparison with L-J medium in detection to acid-fast bacillus in hydrothorax and ascites samples of tuberculosis patients. Results The positive rates of 100 tuberculosis patients, hydrothorax and of ascites samples by centrifuging the liquored sputa and collecting bacteria and by direct smear method were 25.0% and 12.0% respectively. There was significant difference. L-J medium served as controls, the sensitivity and specificity and positive predictive value and negative predictive value and veracity were 80.6%,98.7%,96.2%,92.6% and 93.5% respectively. Conclusion In detection of acid-fast bacillus in hydrothorax and ascites samples of tuberculosis patients, centrifuging the liquored sputa and collecting bacteria is a clinical testing method that is easy to be standardized. It is simplified, accurated, and it is better than direct smear method. The diagnostic accordance rate is satisfactory comparing with L-J medium. And it can also improve the efficiency level, and be beneficial to biological safety protection from laboratory staff.
