Conjugated polymer with spiro center and its use as electroluminescent material

1995
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an electroluminescent device with an excellent color purity by using a conjugated polymer having specific spirobifluorene units. SOLUTION: An electroluminescent material contg. a conjugated polymer having 2-1,000 repeating units represented by formula I (wherein A and B are each 6-15C arylene, heteroarylene, or vinylene; C and D are each 6-15C aryl, heteroaryl, or vinyl; S is H or a substituent; and m and n are each 0 or 1) is produced. An electroluminescent device having at least one active layer contg. the polymer is produced. The polymer has an excellent solubility in an org. solvent and good film-forming properties. The luminescent characteristics of the polymer is adjusted over the entire range of visible spectra by selecting the substituents of the polymer. The polymer is produced by using a monomer having a 9,9'-spirobifluorene center as a starting material. COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
