Potentialities of Room Temperature Ionic Liquids for the Nuclear Fuel Cycle: Electrodeposition and Extraction

2005
The potentialities of hydrophobic ionic liquids BumimPF 6 and BumimTf 2 N for their use in the nuclear fuel cycle were investigated, in particular for the electrodeposition and the liquid liquid extraction. The importance of water and impurities on the electrochemical behaviour of the RTILs was pointed out. We also demonstrated that the use of RTILs in replacement of the organic diluent for actinides partitioning is promising and we present a few examples of task-specific ionic liquids synthesis.
