Early mines in Ordos mainly used the “room-and-pillar” or “residual pillar” coal mining method, which is known for low resource recovery rate and poor safety and reliability. The mines were poorly equipped with extraction techniques. There was no distinction between mining and excavation. The mine production capacity was low, and the management level was poor.
