NECESSARY AND SUFFICIENT CRITERIA FOR STABILITY OF A LOW PRESSURE PLASMA WITHOUT MAGNETIC SURFACES
1963
From variational energy principles relative to the equilibrium and stability of a hot plasma in a strong magnetic field, there is derived, to the first order in BETA , a constraint on the pressure tensor as well as necessary and sufficient stability criteria for low pressure configurations without magnetic surfaces.
