Recent progress in the immunodiagnostic markers for type 1 diabetes

2009
Type 1 diabetes is a metabolic disease which is caused by autoimmune destruction of islet β-cell. The most important characteristic of type 1 diabetes is the presence of islet autoantibodies, which be-come the immunodiagnostic markers for type 1 diabetes. The commonly used autoantibodies in the diagnosis are ICA, IAA, GADA and IA-2A. In addition, newly identified ZnTSA and IGRPA may be worth of diagno-sis. The combined diagnosis using muhi-autoantibodies provide higher specificity and sensitivity. This review is to aim directly at the study progress in the immunodiagnostic markers for type 1 diabetes. The function, characteristics and the meaning and application of some immunodiagnostic markers are reviewed and dis-cussed in great detail. Key words: Type 1 diabetes mellitus ;  Immunodiagnostic marker;  Antibody
