Morgagni Diaphragmatic Hernia with Massive Pericardial Effusion in Neonate-A Case Report

1991
Morgagni hernia with massive pericardial effusion has rarely been reported in literature. A low-birth-weight neonate with severely respiratory distress is presented. The initial chest radiograph showed massive enlargement of cardiac silhouette causing almost completely opaque chest. Sonography and MR imaging well demonstrated massive pericardial effusion and herniation of the liver through an anteromedial diaphragmatic defect. The patient exhibited normal health after surgery. Sonography can provide a good initial diagnosis. MR imaging may help to confirm the diagnosis and to achieve a more detailed study in the extent of disease as well as the possibly associated anomalies.
