Simulation of Radiation-Chemical Decomposition of Organic Impurities in Liquid Radioactive Wastes at Depth Disposal

2001
A mathematical model is developed to describe the behavior of organic impurities in liquid radioactive wastes at depth geological disposal. The model includes description of the migration of radionuclides and organic impurities, dynamics of radiation and thermal fields, radiogenic heat release, radioactive decay of radionuclides, and radiation-chemical decomposition of organic substances. The mathematical model is realized in the form of a software and allows prediction of the behavior of organic impurities in a geological formation depending on their properties, parameters of liquid radioactive wastes, and characteristics of the country rocks. Calculations are performed for radiation-chemical decomposition of tributyl phosphate and Sul'fonol detergent in a reservoir bed incorporating radioactive waste of a definite composition.
