Introduction of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) into China.

The sorghum is a plant, which has been intentionally introduced in China for foods needs. It is a plant of African origin, which is much cultivated in the northern hemisphere. For millions of people in the semiarid tropic temperature of Asia and Africa, sorghum is the most important staple food. Sorghum is becoming one of the most important crops in China. There are about 7000 varieties and hybrids including native and introduced species being cultivated in the country. In this article, we focused on the fundamental reasons of the introduction of sorghum and why it is mostly cultivated in the North of China.
