An evaluation of base-excitation response analysis using ASKA

1986
Abstract This paper evaluates the efficiency or the mode superposition technique used in the generalpurpose structural analysis program ASKA for base-excitation response analysis of structures. Using example problems, we show that ASKA results are in significant error unless all the natural modes of a structure are included in the response calculations. It is very inefficient and time-consuming to determine and use all the modes in the case of a large structure. In some problems this exercise is not even possible. It is therefore recommended that a simple modification be effected in the ASKA solution procedure in order to obtain accurate results.
