Thermoplastic compounds with different matrices (PA, POM, PBT), various reinforcing fibres (glass, carbon, aramid) and a number of internal dry lubricants (PTFE, MoS 2 , silicone oil) were subjected to unidirectional sliding against several counterparts. Against unalloyed steel, carbon fibres proved to be advers,AF- and GF-compounds delivered the lowest wear rates. A grease lubrication improved the wear resistance of all materials combinations tested. PTFE based greases were superior to lithium based greases. The lubrication was more effective against unalloyed martensitic steel than against austentic stainless steel, which in turn delivered better results under dry sliding conditions. The wear resitance of the compounds under lubricated conditions did not correlate with the wear rates under dry sliding.
