Integrating Haptic Feedback into a Virtual Reality Mobility Training Game for People with Parkinson’s Disease

2021
Virtual reality (VR) interfaces provide immersive and engaging rehabilitation for populations such as people with Parkinson’s disease (PD). However, VR experiences for walking often lack haptic feedback about the user’s interaction with the environment. In this paper, we design a haptic interface that provides feedback in a therapeutic game to increase player’s engagement and immersion, with the goal of improving multitasking, obstacle avoidance, and mobility.
