Milk with Brain Factor-7 (BF-7 milk) enhances attention and cognition in normal persons

2009
It has been proven that Brain Factor-7 (BF-7), a specific natural peptide mixture extracted from Bombyx mori (silk moth), enhances learning, memory and attention in normal and elderly individuals. In this study, BF-7 was added to milk to prepare BF-7 milk in order to evaluate whether BF-7 milk could improve brain function in normal persons. Forty-seven normal, healthy university students for the BF-7 milk (25 individuals) and plain milk placebo groups (22) were included. The Stroop test was used under double-blinded conditions to measure the efficacy of BF-7 milk on attention, cognition, learning and memory before and after the administration. Results showed that BF-7 milk improved the accuracy of the task more than 3-fold and reduced the response time. Furthermore, BF-7 milk protected neuronal cells from 3-hydroxykynurenine (3-HK), an endogenous brain stressor, and reinforced the energy metabolism of neuronal cells. These results indicate that BF-7 milk enhances learning, memory, and concentration in normal persons and protects brain from neuronal stress.
