Optimization for Sand Casting of SG Iron

2021
The aim of present research work is to maximize the casting production of spheroidal graphite (SG) Iron. However, rejection rate of casted parts is high in sand-casting process. There are many causes of rejection, but hardness variation of casted parts is major concern. Therefore, optimum control parameters are required to reduce the rejection rate of casted parts. Keeping this in view, experiments have been conducted using L8 orthogonal array for sand casting of SG iron. Later, significant control factor have been determined using Taguchi method. Copper found as a significant factor on hardness of casted parts.
