Abrusosides A-D, Four Novel Sweet-Tasting Triterpene Glycosides from the leaves of Abrus precatorius

1989
In addition to abrusoside A, abrusosides B, C, and D, 3 further sweet glycosides based on the novel cycloartane-type aglycone, abrus oganin, were isolated from an extract of the leaves of Abrus precatorius. After it established that abrusosides were neither acutely toxic with mice nor mutagenic with Salmonella typhimurium strain TM 677, they were found by a human taste panel to exhibit sweetnen potenuis in the range 30-100 times greater than sucrose
