Fast Light Modulator Based On Stressed Liquid Crystals

We introduce stressed liquid crystals as new ultra fast light modulating materials that provide large shift of phase retardation in a submillisecond time frame. Performance of these materials in a number of applications, including those that work in the IR region, is discussed.
