Abstract 16375: Biomarkers Associated With Dense Calcium Increase in Coronary Plaque Under Statin Therapy

2017
Introduction: There is still residual risk in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients under statin therapy. Accumulation of coronary calcification is associated with cardiovascular events. The factors increasing dense calcium are unknown especially under statin therapy. Some inflammatory or lipid makers may be associated with increasing dense calcium volume. The present study aimed to determine the factors associated with dense calcium increase in CAD patients under statin therapy. Methods: This study is sub-analysis of the TRUTH study. The TRUTH trial is a prospective, open-labeled, randomized, multicenter trial, that compared the effects of pitavastatin versus pravastatin treatment for 8 months on coronary artery plaque composition in 164 statin naive patients, by using virtual histology intravascular ultrasound (VH-IVUS). All patients received statin only after study enrollment. The target lesion had a plaque burden of ≥ 50% and a minimum length of 10 mm, based on IVUS data. The primary endpoint was the...
