Extraction of TiO2+ from 1 M (Na+, H+) SO42− by D2EHPA

2002
Abstract The equilibrium formulation for the extraction of TiO 2+ from 1 M (Na + , H + ) SO 4 2− solution by di-2-ethylhexylphosphoric acid (D2EHPA) in n -hexane has been investigated. It is observed that the TiO 2+ species is polymerized in both phases and the degree of polymerization increases as its concentration in the aqueous phase is increased. The organic phase titanium species is at best trimerized. The extractant dependence is found to be a function of TiO 2+ concentration. In the scarcity of extractant, the bisulphato complex of titanium seems to be extracted. The calculated K ex values are also found to be a function of TiO 2+ concentration in the aqueous phase. Some interfacial tension measurements have been reported and explained.
