Energy Losses in Multifilamentary Composite Wires in 50 Hz Magnetic Fields

1996
The energy losses in 8 commercial composite conductors with submicron NbTi superconducting filaments are reported. The composites consist of Nb-50 wt. % Ti filaments embedded in the matrix. The wires were produced from bimetallic (NbTi/CuNi and NbTi/CuMn) and trimetallic using a (NbTi/Cu/CuNi) billets with Nb — 50%wt.%Ti core. Losses were measured calorimeter with a 50-Hz magnetic fields up to 1 T. Samples measured 0.15 – 0.5 — mm in diameter and contained up to 45000 filaments.
